One of my favorite bands in the world is The Cat Empire from Australia. I seriously love all of their songs.
A couple of years ago I did this painting inspired by their song Shoulders and I took it to the first art show I ever did in Nashville.
I hadn't had much luck getting into art shows so I took whatever I could get. One show I was in actually turned out to be a rave, but I already told you that story.
So anyways, I turned onto the street of the show venue and the GPS said turn left in 1,000 feet AND I had just passed the Crazy Horse. I mean, I'm an optimistic person, it could still work out right? Maybe there's a lot of cash in this area.
Then 1,000 feet came and I turned left into a row of dark store fronts. One had bars on the windows. Ummm. This can't seriously be happening.
Of course, the venue turned out to be the store front with the bars on it.
At least it was secure.
But then I walked in and everything changed, sort of. Oh it was still a shit hole. And I'm pretty sure someone actually lived there due to the bed in the corner. However, the art was freakin amazing. It was real art. Each artist had a unique style I had never seen before and it was a really fun time.
It also end up being the first show I sold a painting. So whatever weird stuff is going on right now for you keep going that 1,000 feet because you never know what is going to happen. It might end up sucking really bad but it might not.
I'm Jackie, an artist, illustrator, and friend to ghosts, monsters, and aliens. This blog is full of DIY projects, stories, and things I think are cool. Stay weird.
