I just finished a new painting for the dream series. This one is called 'The Memory' and is acrylic on 16"x20" canvas. I also used blacklight reactive paint which gives it a really cool look under a blacklight.
I think most people can say they have had a dream that involves a past memory. Even if it is just a fragment of that memory and then maybe the dream becomes something completely weird. Either way dream scientists have noticed there might be some correlation between memories and dreams.
In the article Dreams and Memory by Patrick McNamara Ph.D. he writes about the theory that dreams are essential in memory processing, although no link has been found. This is interesting to me because I'm actually not sure if some of my earliest memories are actually memories or dreams I had.
For example, I have this memory from when I was about 3 or 4. It's one of the first things I remember. We lived in an apartment complex with a pool at the time, and I had a little bike. I have this memory that the bike was stolen and so my Mom takes me to this little shack where this man, I guess the groundskeeper, has my bike. My Mom swears this didn't happen, so how do I have this memory? Maybe it was just a dream.
Do you think memories and dreams are somehow linked?
