I try to work on sketches and figure drawing once in awhile. Honestly, I should do it more often. Last Sunday after I finished up a painting session I decided to do some quick sketches. Obviously drawing from a live subject is best, but I didn't have anyone to draw so I did the next best thing, I went on Pinterest. I found this website that has timed drawing exercises. First there are six one minute poses. Then four two minute poses. And then finally a five minute pose.
On the right page, the top three and bottom two are one minute poses. One minute goes by pretty quickly so all you can really do is the basic shape. On the page on the left the far left two drawings are the two minute poses. There is a little more time, but not much. The top left image on the left page is the five minute drawing.
I still struggle with proportions of the human body. But as they say practice makes perfect. The great thing about art, or anything for that matter, is no matter how good or bad you are you can always keep working on it. There is always something to learn.
